Das Filmprogramm des 22. Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festivals lädt dazu ein, queere Ausdrucksformen im Kontext von theoretischen Auseinandersetzungen mit Verkörperung und Sinnlichkeit sowie Performativität in den Blick zu nehmen. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit liegt auf einer queer-feministischen Perspektive, Schwerpunkt sind Werke und Erfahrungen von Frauen. Der Kontext, in dem diese Filme aus der Filmgeschichte in Erinnerung gerufen werden, ist das Phänomen des New Queer Cinema, das mit dem Auftauchen von Filmen mit queeren Themen auf den wichtigsten internationalen Filmfestivals zu Beginn der 90er Jahre zusammenhängt. Es hebt experimentelle Filmarbeiten hervor, die körperliche Erfahrungen erforschen, die sich je nach Alter, Klasse, race und Gesundheit sehr unterschiedlich gestalten.
Angelika Ramlow (arsenal distribution) und Annette Lingg (Arsenal Programmteam) präsentieren zusammen mit der Filmemacherin Angelika Levi queere Filme der 80er und 90er Jahre aus dem Verleih von arsenal distribution: SEXPARTY (BRD 1987), FREUNDE (D 1994), beide von Angelika Levi, ROTE OHREN FETZEN DURCH ASCHE (Ursula Pürrer, Dietmar Schipek, Ashley Hans Scheirl, Österreich 1991), PENSÃO GLOBO (Matthias Müller, D 1997) und weitere experimentelle Arbeiten.
The film section of the 22. Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival is an invitation to explore queer expression in the context of the concepts of embodiment and sensuous theories, as well as theories of performativity.It pays special attention to the queer feminist perspective, focusing largely on the works and experiences of women understood in an inclusive sense, encompassing all those who have/had experience of being women. The context for recalling these films from the history of cinema is the phenomenon of New Queer Cinema, related to the appearance of films dedicated to queer topics at the most important international film festivals in the early 1990s. It highlights experimental film works that explore the experiences of a body—different in terms of age, class, race, and health. The section is organized in collaboration with Arsenal - Institute for Film and Video Art E.V as part of the Arsenal on Location project.

Beim Warschauer Dokumentarfilmfestival Millenium Docs Against Gravity Festival fand ein Programm unter Beteiligung des Arsenal statt: Die fünfteilige Reihe „Queer Experiences of a Body“ mit einen Fokus auf in den 1990er Jahren entstandenen Filmen, viele davon aus der Sammlung des Arsenal. Kuratiert wurde das Programm von Gabriela Sitek, die 2022 im Rahmen der Living Archive Residency im Arsenal-Archiv forschte. Beim Programm mit ROTE OHREN FETZEN DURCH ASCHE und zwei Filmen von Angelika Levi (SEX PARTY und FREUNDE) waren Angelika Levi, Angelika Ramlow (Arsenal Verleih) und Annette Lingg (Arsenal Kino) anwesend und beantworteten Fragen von Gabriela Sitek und dem Publikum – zur Bedeutung des queeren Films in den 90er Jahren und heute, zu Angelika Levis Arbeit und zu queeren Filmen im Verleih und Archiv des Arsenal. Die Vorführungen fanden im 2024 neu erbauten Kinomuzeum und vor einem vollen Saal statt, mit einem jungen und sehr interessierten Publikum.
At this year’s Millennium Docs Against Gravity Festival in Warsaw, a program took place with the involvement of Arsenal: the five-part series QUEER EXPERIENCES OF A BODY focused on films made in the 1990s, many of them drawn from Arsenal’s collection. The program was curated by Gabriela Sitek, who conducted research in the Arsenal archive in 2022 as part of the Living Archive Residency.
At the screening featuring ROTE OHREN FETZEN DURCH ASCHE and two films by Angelika Levi (SEX PARTY and FREUNDE), Angelika Levi, Angelika Ramlow (Arsenal Distribution), and Annette Lingg (Arsenal Cinema) were present and took part in a conversation with Gabriela Sitek and the audience – discussing the significance of queer cinema in the 1990s and today, Angelika Levi’s artistic practice, and the role of queer films in Arsenal’s distribution and archive holdings.
The screenings took place at the newly built Kinomuzeum (opened in 2024) and played to a full house of young and highly engaged viewers.

Im KINOMUZEUM des Museums für Moderne Kunst in Warschau treffen unabhängige und experimentelle Filme auf die spannendsten Aspekte des Mainstream-Kinos. Es ist ein Ort, an dem man europäisches Arthouse- und Genrekino, Filme von Künstler*innen, Dokumentar- und Animationsfilme sehen, Filmschaffende treffen und mit Expert*innen aus Theorie und Praxis über Filmkunst diskutieren kann. Im KINOMUZEUM wird die umfangreiche Filmsammlung des Museums für Moderne Kunst in Warschau vorgeführt. KINOMUZEUM arbeitet an der Schnittstelle zwischen Kino und moderner Kunst, spielt mit dem Spannungsfeld zwischen Theorie und Unterhaltung und fragt gemeinsam mit seinem vielfältigen Publikum, was Kino heute bedeutet.
Das Filmfestival Millennium Docs Against Gravity arbeitet seit fast zehn Jahren mit dem Museum für Moderne Kunst in Warschau zusammen und kuratiert gemeinsam Projekte wie die Avantgarde-Akademie, die mehrere dem experimentellen Kino gewidmete Filmsektionen des Festivals umfasst. Bei den meisten dieser Projekte wird besonderes Augenmerk auf die Darstellung der Geschichte des weiblichen Filmschaffens gelegt. Für das Festival ist das KINOMUZEUM des Museums für Moderne Kunst in Warschau, welches im letzten Jahr eröffnet wurde, der beste Ort in Warschau, um die experimentelle Sektion des 22. KINOMUZEUM of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw is a place where independent and experimental films meet the most interesting emanations of mainstream cinema. It is a place where you can watch European arthouse, genre cinema, films by artists, documentaries and animations, meet filmmakers and filmmakers, and discuss film art with experts working in both theoretical and practical areas. In the KINOMUZEUM is actively screened the Museum of Modern Art’s in Warsaw extensive film collection. Working at the intersection of cinematography and modern art, playing with the tension created between theory and entertainment, together with our diverse audience KINOMUZEUM asks what cinema is for today.
The Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival has been cooperating with the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw for nearly 10 years, co-curating such projects as the Avant-garde Academy, curating multiple festival’s film sections dedicated to experimental cinema. Special attention was put to present the history of women filmmaking in the majority of those projects. It was obvious for the festival that the KINOMUZEUM of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, which was opened last year, is the best place in Warsaw to present experimental section of the 22nd Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival – “Queer Experiences of the Body” which is organize as a part of the project Arsenal on Location. The 22nd edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity will take place from May 9–18 in cinemas across Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdynia, Poznań, Katowice, Łódź, and Bydgoszcz, and online from May 20 to June 2 at mdag.pl!
